Data Source Verification

Historical research is a method to discover, seek out the truth about historical events. The truth has to be backed by evidence that is solid, by way of historical documents whose credibility has been proven.

Source verification focuses on two aspects that are important, which is authenticity of sources (authenticity) as well as the trustworthiness to the authenticity of the source (reliability). The test for authenticity of the source is performed with criticism from outside, whereas the reliability test of sources is conducted by internal critics.

External criticism is a way to look at the physical features of the sources uncovered. Internal criticism is a method to assess the level of trust in the source.
