Chiefs of Ontario, Research and Data Management Sector seeks an enthusiastic and independent candidate to fill the job of Research Assistant and join the team.
The Chiefs of Ontario’s Research and Data Management Sector is a critical sector that collaborates with other departments within the organization as well as with First Nations communities, research institutes, awarding organizations, and the provincial and federal governments.
As a Research Assistant, you will contribute to numerous research initiatives. This position supports the implementation of OCAP® and First Nations data sovereignty, utilizing your expertise and experience. With your research training and expertise in First Nations research, you have the potential to contribute to this emerging field.
This post reports to the Chief Scientist in Chiefs of Ontario’s Research and Data Management department. The Chiefs of Ontario serves as the secretariat for Ontario’s 133 First Nations. You will be a member of a team that supports improved data quality for the First Nations. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference by combining your talents, experience, and education.
Location: Flexible. There are work from home and hybrid solutions available.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Prepare materials for grant agencies and foundations Investigate Ethics Boards, background materials, publications, reports, and website entries. Project management
Research assistance, primary/source investigation, synthesis of existing material, and literature reviews
Expert research skills, particularly with relation to academic databases, such as keyword searching and locating material from a variety of digital and physical resources.
Data analysis skills, including the ability to use spreadsheets, specialist statistical software, or other digital tools to evaluate quantitative or qualitative data and generate results.
Organize, manage, and keep research data while maintaining confidentiality
Coordinate meetings with researchers, community partners, and advisory groups and disseminate a summary of choices, actions, and next steps; handle and reply to project-related email; monitor the project budget, including the management of per diems, equipment, and supplies.
Capability to operate at the juncture of academic and “real-world”
Competencies and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a pertinent academic subject
Three years of experience in a relevant field
Strong organizational and execution skills for medium- and long-term projects
Knowledge of the methods, history, and culture of First Nations governments.

The Chiefs of Ontario offer a respectable compensation, as well as two weeks of office closure in December and January. Comprehensive benefits package and employer-matched retirement plan.
DURATION: August 2022 through March 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension based on the availability of money.
