The analysis of data in Geographical Research

Research is a science-based activity performed with a set of steps. Researchers seek to discover the answers to a particular issue and to gain valuable knowledge that can be used to improve the progress of science and the solution of problems. Similar to other areas of science, research in geography is also conducted to advance the field of geography and resolve problems associated with geographical phenomenon.

Geography research objects are the geosphere, atmosphere cryosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Geosphere (geosphere) is the description of earth’s surface. The atmosphere describes the structure of air layer on the earth. The term “hydrosphere” refers to the conditions of the water in the earth. The cryosphere (cryosphere) can be described as the surface of the earth covered with an ice layer. In addition, the biosphere (biosphere) is a reference to living organisms that live on the earth.

One of the most important tasks that research professionals must take such as geographic research involves data analysis. Analysis of data is an process that converts research data into data that can be utilized to draw conclusions and find solutions to the problems investigated.

There are three different data analysis techniques used in geographical research. These are qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis and GIS analysis.

Quantitative Analysis

Quantitative analysis of data is a processing of research data method to discover the truth of a research issue in relation to the magnitude or quantity of data supported with certain figures.

The most recognizable characteristics that is characteristic of statistical analysis is its usage of numbers to show the significance of the results. This technique of analysis can also be employed to determine the significance of the connection between the variables being studied.

Qualitative Analysis

While the qualitative analysis of data is a method of data processing. The phases of qualitative analysis begin with the collection of data and then the sorting into manageable pieces. Following that it is synthesised. Then, the researcher is attempting to discover patterns within the data. The results are explained and presented to the public.

Contrary to quantitative analysis that is similar to counting numbers, qualitative analysis seeks to discover the connection between variables by using statements.

GIS Analysis

The final type of geographical research analysis method includes GIS which is also known as a geographic information system. This technique of analysis is called a common analysis of research in geography because it only focuses in relation to geographic research.

GIS is a computer system whose function is to collect manage, present, and display information or data that is related to geography. Contrary to maps, GIS includes more extensive and interactive information, so its capabilities are more diverse.
